GDSC – COVID-19 – SHUTDOWN

** Virus Update **
Based on Monday’s statement from the Prime Minister and information from Swim England, the club have taken the decision to close indefinitely with effect from Friday this week, 20th March.
The Club Champs at the weekend is regrettably cancelled and our attendance at all Galas, Open Meets etc will also be cancelled.
Sessions for tonight (Tuesday), Wednesday and Thursday will go ahead at the swimmers/parent’s discretion, there will be no club desk so these sessions will be ‘free’.
I am sure you all appreciate this is a very fluid and fast-moving situation and therefore these plans may change subject to Government and LC updates.
There will be further information on fees, payments for open meets etc. in the next few days
As a Management Team we have a duty of care not only to our swimmers and their families but our staff and their families and believe this positive action supports everyone going forward.

Virus Update ***

Following questions from some families at our sessions on Sunday the club would just like to assure everyone that we, like businesses and other volunteer run organisations, are taking this issue seriously. Whilst we will make decisions in the next days or weeks on our sessions and Club Champs etc. we will do so based on the guidance of Swim England and the Government, and locally – the Leisure Centre. We have a Management Meeting on Tuesday and will post any changes to sessions and if the Club Champs will go ahead on Saturday, following the meeting.
We naturally support any GDSC staff who feel they need to stay away for the health and safety of themselves and their immediate family but ask you to contact both Mark and Nigel via email or text to allow cover to be put in place if necessary.

DIDDY LEAGUE RND 1

**7th March 2020** Scunthorpe

Sadly we have had to withdraw from this gala on the grounds of not being able to provide a full squad for the event.

This is very disappointing from a Club perspective, and very embarrassing for Mark and I as we are two of the louder voices in the County asking for the Diddy League to be run to give all kids a chance at gala swimming, and for there to be 3 gala’s, us not attending makes our voice weaker in future meetings.

We could only field 3 of the girls age groups and no boys age groups, this is despite a gala list being posted on both the notice board and FB since January.

We cannot afford for this to happen again for the next gala – 13th June @ Louthwe need swimmers from Penguins upwards to be available for the gala – we will do all we can to get a team together, putting the list on notice boards, the website and FB, asking a parent of each swimmer closer to the event – we need the support of parents – put the date in your diary, keep it free, please!!

GDSC – Young Aquatic Helpers

Success for Gainsborough Dolphins swimmers on the clubs first Young Aquatic Helpers Course.

GDSC recently held their first Young Aquatic Helpers Course at the pool. Five, of the clubs current young swimmers took part on the course and are all now helping out in an active role within the club.

(Pictured below, left to right) Course attendee’s – Finlay Dawson, Amelia Nimmo, Freya Gidlow and Amelia Osborne with, (the not so young) head coach Mark Smith, after receiving their certificates from Swim England.

“They’ve all done fantastic, its great to see that our swimmers are wanting to help out, and pass on what they have learnt to younger, developing swimmers in the club. As a club run entirely by volunteers, their help is greatly appreciated” – Kieran Ferry, Workforce Coordinator.

The YAH course, which was delivered by the club, gives young swimmers (14 to 16 yrs old) an introduction to being an Assistant Teacher and is an official qualification from Swim England. With the success of the first course, the club is considering delivering it again in December this year.

Chairman, Nigel Stevenson, on behalf of the club, would like to thank Kieran for organising and taking the course and congratulate the attendee’s.

Swim Mark 2019

Great News!!
Swim Mark is basically an audit of our operating and business systems.
The club gained, what was then known as Swim 21 a couple of years ago and each year you must go through what is termed ‘a health check’, success means you are re-accredited for another year.
Swim 21 recently changed to Swim Mark, and the ASA to Swim England which required, as a minimum, several documents being updated to alter these references. We also had too present several documents in a new format or with current data.
Paula Osborne, our Swim Mark leader, once again took charge of the process and through her hard work and with the support of club colleagues I am pleased to announce that her efforts have allowed us to be successful as we have gained re-accreditation for 2019.
On behalf of the club I would like to thank Paula for her support and hard work.
