GDSC Official Launch, 9 January 2011

Gainsborough Dolphins Swimming Club opened its doors officially for the first time on Sunday 9th Jan 2011, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on the pool side in the presence of Mayor, Cllr. Tim Davies, Mayoress Miss Caroline Carnell and West Lindsey District Council Chairman Cllr Owen Bierley and over 200 swimmers, who were in the water four hours through the evening. The Management Team have worked tirelessly over the last six months to get a pool structure in place and the special guests witnessed a full pool from the start of the night. They commented on how organised the pool was, how enthusiastic and hard working the children were and how much they appeared to be enjoying themselves. Some of the small pool children helped with the ribbon cutting before going off to their lessons and other groups had photographs taken with the special guests through the evening.

With the teaching staff resplendent in their Gainsborough Dolphins Swimming Club burgundy T-shirts, the atmosphere around both pools for the early sessions was one of noisy excitement, as teachers and children settled into the new club and its structure.

Swimming Club Chairman Nigel Stevenson said “The night has gone very well considering the numbers involved and the children all seemed to enjoy themselves, although we have had the odd tearful child, and one or two who were not sure of where to be. The support staff have been excellent. We expected one or two teething problems and from the feed back I have had from parents on the night, we seem to have answered most queries. We have had a very successful first night, with lots of happy children who tell me they are coming again next week!”

Nigel also added “I would like to thank all those who were able to be involved behind the scenes for their hard work, directing families and their children to the right groups, all the teaching staff, the parents for their patience and understanding and the SLM staff for their support on what was a very busy night”.

The club also extends special thanks to West Lindsey District Council Chairman Cllr Owen Bierley, the Mayor, Cllr. Tim Davies and his Mayoress Miss Caroline Carnell for their positive words and for taking the time to support the club. The club provides swimming lessons for children from five years old right through to sessions for mature swimmers of sixty plus.

If you were a member of one of the three old clubs and have not yet become a member of the new club, or not received paperwork inviting you to join the club, please contact the club by calling Nigel on 07867962357 or email info@gainsboroughdolphins.co.uk
